D-MAJOR BREAKS OUT WITH 'I WANT YOU' 02.12.10
Normally known for his smooth voice and girls' tunes D-Major is about to get a little edgier with his soon-to-be- released single I Want You. It signals the start of what he describes as his time to try something a little different. "I'm excited about this one. This is a party song, uptempo. I wanted a song to make the girls feel sexy again, a dancehall party song," he says, while sitting on a stool under a mango tree at Big Yard. Even though he is sitting, his 6-foot-five athletic frame is hunched forward, trying to avoid the low hanging branches that snatch at his neatly braided hair. "I have seen R. Kelly come do it - Bad Like a Snake and Fiesta, and mash up our dancehall, that was playing as the number-one song in our dancehall and I wanted to do something like that. So I challenged myself and stepped out of the traditional D-Major stuff and I am pleased with how it came out."

He is so pleased, he is thinking of doing more songs of a similar nature. "I am definitely gonna do more stuff like that," he said of the song that is on a rhythm that producer Richie Loops calls the 'Majority rhythm'. "A radio personality has passed through and heard it and the feedback is great so I am excited about that release. Being an artiste, you're supposed to step outside the box. You are supposed to create new things on a constant basis. We want to be able to perform a set that has up tempo music and still have that soft sensual music for the girls and probably an inspirational song, we are always trying to keep it as versatile as possible."

FAME FM's audience got a preview of the song earlier this week and so far the response has been good, THE WEEKEND STAR understands.

Meantime, he has his mind set on the Celebrity Olympics on Ash Wednesday, February 17. "Personally, I want to see the Bigga Forde/Sky Juice race. I think that race is gonna take the day but they better have a chopper on call," he said laughing. "I am more excited to see that race than even participating."

The singer who stays in shape by training with the world's fastest man Usain Bolt says he will probably be running the 100 metres and probably a relay. Some of his label mates will also be involved. "Chris Martin and Bolt will probably be playing football. It's a fun day and a charity thing as well."

Otherwise, there is another song coming out soon from Jamplified Records called Smooth Sailing. Several disc jockeys have already received copies of the song and it has also been played on FAME.

He declares that he is feeling the love from his fan base that is growing by the day and with the new singles, he expects even better things in the near future. "We're just going to continue the work," he said.
